What is your Nervous System Type?

Discover how your body responds to chronic stress-and what it needs to recover.

Read each group of statements and check all that apply. At the end, tally up the category with the most checkmarks to discover your dominant nervous system response type.

🔥 Type 1: The "Wired & Tired" (Sympathetic Dominant)

You may be stuck in fight or flight mode, often on edge but running low on reserves.

  • ☐ I feel alert but exhausted

  • ☐ I often wake up at 3 AM with a racing mind

  • ☐ I overthink everything and struggle to slow down

  • ☐ I crave caffeine or sugar for energy

  • ☐ I feel anxious or irritable easily

  • ☐ I tend to be productive even when I’m stressed

If this is your dominant type: Your nervous system is overstimulated. You need calming practices and steady energy support.

🧊 Type 2: The "Frozen & Flatlined" (Dorsal Vagal Dominant)

You may be stuck in shutdown mode, feeling numb, disconnected, or overwhelmed.

  • ☐ I often feel emotionally numb or detached

  • ☐ I struggle to get out of bed or get motivated

  • ☐ I experience brain fog or forgetfulness

  • ☐ I feel invisible or withdrawn in groups

  • ☐ I avoid things because they feel "too much"

  • ☐ I sometimes feel hopeless or unworthy

If this is your dominant type: Your nervous system is in protective freeze mode. You need gentle stimulation and reconnection strategies.

🌪️ Type 3: The "Chaotic Cycle" (Mixed Dysregulation)

You flip between overdrive and shutdown, often not knowing which state you’ll wake up in.

  • ☐ Some days I’m wired and other days I can’t get out of bed

  • ☐ I feel like I’m swinging between anxiety and depression

  • ☐ My energy crashes unpredictably

  • ☐ I feel like I’m either doing too much or avoiding everything

  • ☐ I have a hard time trusting how I’ll feel day-to-day

  • ☐ I feel overwhelmed by structure but lost without it

If this is your dominant type: Your nervous system is dysregulated. You need rhythm, consistency, and a blend of stimulation and restoration.

🌿 Tally Your Results:

  • Most checks in Type 1 → Sympathetic Dominant (Wired & Tired)

  • Most checks in Type 2 → Dorsal Vagal Dominant (Flatlined)

  • A fairly even mix → Mixed Dysregulation (Chaotic Cycle)
